Intel & Dell Technologies

Users may recycle old electronics at Intel's new Island for virtual rewards.

Animal Crossing: New Horizon is a video game developed and published by Nintendo. Players might occasionally find rusted parts by searching through the recycling bin on their virtual island. Although some people might consider a rusted lump of metal garbage, Intel and Dell Technologies saw an opportunity to make them into in-game riches and opportunities to promote their recycling efforts, respectively. As part of a new campaign that went live in November 2022, gamers have the opportunity to barter corroded components for high-tech items that they can flaunt in the house that their character inhabits. Users of the Animal Crossing trading website Nookazon can trade in a part for one of six in-game electronic devices, such as a laptop or a server. They will be given a code that allows them entry to eCycleLand. On this island, they can complete the trade and take a tour of four stations that provide information on what types of electronics may be recycled and how Dell offers trade-in credits in exchange for certain goods.
