Cindy Ngamba

The boxer Cindy Ngamba is Nike's first refugee athlete to be signed by the company.

A member of the International Olympic Committee's Refugee Olympic Team for the 2024 Games in Paris is Cindy Ngamba. She made history by becoming the first refugee athlete to join Nike's elite squad in the month of May 2024. Ngamba left her home country of Cameroon when she was 11 years old and currently resides in the United Kingdom, where she has won three national boxing championships and is a young coach. Nike is working with the Olympic Refuge Foundation's Terrains d'Avenir initiative in Paris, in addition to signing Ngamba and sponsoring the official gear for the Refugee Olympic Team. This collaboration is taking place in Paris.

An accompanying advertisement highlights Ngamba with judoka Mohammad Rashnonezhad, who is originally from Iran; cyclist Eyeru Gebru, who is originally from Ethiopia; and 800 meter runner Perina Lokure, who is originally from South Sudan. The advertisement emphasizes Nike's confidence in the power of sport to unlock human potential. When confronted with the question that is all too common, "But where are you really from?" Without wavering in their resolve, Ngamba and her fellow athletes respond to the situation. "I am on the verge of losing my home, my country, and my native flag. However, refusing to give up. Indeed, that is the place where we hail from. Keep an eye on the direction we are heading.
