Muslim cyclists now have access to a hijab that is designed for performance.
In the month of May 2024, the British cycling company Rapha collaborated with the London-based cycling organization Cycle Sisters to develop cycling-specific performance gear for Muslim women. The set includes padding pants that are ankle-length, a long jersey, and a hijab that fits snugly around the neck. Focus groups conducted by Rapha's design team revealed that Muslim women — for lack of modest options — often resorted to wearing men's cycling gear to achieve a covered fit, compromising both their performance and comfort.
