AI-powered augmented reality capabilities were introduced by Snapchat in June 2024. One of these features was a real-time image model that enables users to generate augmented reality effects quickly by putting in a prompt. Lens Studio, Snap's developer program, was also enhanced to add an artificial intelligence assistant that can respond to questions from developers. Additionally, the application now allows developers to enter in a prompt to automatically generate a 3D image that can be used for an augmented reality lens. It is possible that this will cut the amount of time required to build high-quality augmented reality lenses from weeks to hours, as stated by the business. Additionally, Snap announced a collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery in London to develop portrait-style Lenses. These Lenses will enable users to take part in the 'Living Portrait' initiative that the museum is running.
