The Dungeons & Dragons publisher, Wizards of the Coast, which is owned by Hasbro, made the announcement that it will now license the tabletop role-playing game's fundamental mechanics under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license after weeks of reaction and protests from fans and content creators.Dungeons & Dragons. The backlash and protests came after Wizards of the Coast declared that it would not license the game's underlying mechanics. This grants the community "a worldwide, royalty-free, non-sublicensable, non-exclusive, and irrevocable license" to publish and sell works based on Dungeons & Dragons. The license is also non-exclusive and does not allow sublicenses.
