For the purpose of promoting empathy in ordinary conversation, IKEA Poland has published a glossary.
In the month of May in the year 2024, IKEA Poland released the Lexicon of Good Language. This is a guide that encourages the use of inclusive language and challenges harmful and exclusive rhetoric that is used in everyday communication to promote inclusion. As a part of IKEA's continuing #ChangingTheNarrative campaign, the lexicon was developed in collaboration with seven non-governmental NGOs. Within each part, the wording that pertains to various groups that are susceptible to prejudice is the focus. These groups include individuals with disabilities, members of the LGBT+ community, members of national and ethnic minorities, refugees, and younger and older people. The Lexicon of Good Language was developed with the intention of being easily accessible and simple to comprehend. Each chapter provides a list of words that are discouraged and the reasons for this, as well as substitutes that are offered. IKEA hopes that by making the text available for free download, they will encourage individuals to examine whether they are unwittingly hurting others and to reconsider the terms and phrases that they use in everyday talks and interactions in the workplace.
