New hat line using plastic-free mushroom leather (or mycelium)
MycoWorks, an industry leader in biomaterials, announced in July 2022 that it would begin selling the first items of clothing to be crafted with its signature mycelium material, Reishi. Nick Fouquet, a luxury hatmaker located in the United States, is responsible for creating the Reishi Collection, which features the Reishi Boletus, Coprinus, and Morchella hats. Mycelium is the root structure of mushrooms, and it is infinitely renewable. Using MycoWorks' Fine Mycelium technology, designers are able to construct mycelium as it develops to meet their exact requirements for hand feel, texture, strength, and functionality. This opens up new design possibilities for businesses. The end product, known as Reishi, is a natural and luxurious material that performs on par with the highest quality animal leathers despite having a less negative impact on the environment.
