The first halal-certified convenience store opens in Malaysia.
In the month of May 2023, the announcement was made that FamiCafé, which is located in Menara U, Shah Alam, would be the first halal-certified convenience store in Malaysia. After discontinuing the sale of alcoholic beverages, the FamilyMart Malaysia-owned store was able to gain accreditation from the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM). The goal of FamilyMart Malaysia is to have all 300 of its FamiCafés certified as halal by the year 2025. Among the food and beverages that will continue to be sold at the store are oden, coffee, and Sofuto, which is a type of soft ice cream.
