There have been collaborations established between businesses in order to make use of recycled solar glass in the manufacturing of solar panels.
In September 2024 Heliene announced it will manufacture solar panels using recycled glass provided by SOLARCYCLE. Over the next five years, the solar recycling solutions company will supply Heliene with 4 gigawatts (GW) of ultra-low carbon solar glass, made from retired solar panels. This will help Heliene reduce manufacturing emissions by 30% and shipping emissions by 50%, while supporting domestic solar manufacturing. SOLARCYCLE's Georgia-based factory will produce 5-6 GW of solar glass annually, closing a gap in the US solar supply chain and helping solar developers qualify for Inflation Reduction Act incentives.
