Opera & Safaricom
An Opera user is excited to save with the upcoming free data campaign.

Customers in Ethiopia can get free monthly data from a web browser provider.

During the month of September 2023, the Norwegian web browser provider Opera made available to Safaricom customers in Ethiopia a daily browsing allowance of up to 50 megabytes (MB) through either Opera Mini or Opera for Android. The project, which does not include the streaming of videos or the downloading of files, provides users with improved access to online resources, educational information, and connections to their respective families and friends. The Data Compression technology that Opera Mini offers, which is used by approximately 100 million people across Africa, has the ability to save up to 90 percent of the data that is used while browsing. The Africa First strategy implemented by Opera has already made it possible for roughly 40 million people in five different nations to browse the internet without charge.
