As seen through the eyes of endangered creatures, gamers take action to restore environments.
Rewild the World is an educational project launched on World Wildlife Day in March 2024 by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Google Arts & Culture. The project focuses explicitly on four endangered species and the environments in which they live: tigers, gorillas, polar bears, and sea turtles. Through the use of Google's MediaPipe machine-learning technology, the interactive game provides users with the opportunity to experience the world from the point of view of the species and to restore habitats through the use of simple hand gestures. This program is a reflection of a larger commitment to utilizing technology for conservation purposes, to tackle the remarkable 69% decrease in wildlife populations that has occurred since 1970.
