Hema is testing employee mobile payments.
It is the first retail chain in the Netherlands to test out a new program that can transform any smartphone into a payment terminal, allowing customers to pay for their products from any location within Hema's stores. The app developers ING and the European payment provider CCV claim to be the first to put such a payment plan into reality with a major shop, making it simpler for customers to pay for their purchases. The developers claim that their app makes life easier for customers and gives merchants greater leeway to adapt to changing market conditions because they do not need to invest in any new hardware. It has been stated that the device will accept standard Dutch debit cards, as well as some credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The announcement was made in September of 2022.
