An environmentally responsible bioplastic produced from bark is introduced by a startup.
Bpacks, a startup company that specializes in environmentally responsible packaging, introduced the world's first bark-based biodegradable bioplastics in March of 2024. Founded in 2022 and operating out of the UK and Serbia, Bpacks utilizes by-products like bark and used coffee grounds to produce compostable bioplastics that decompose within one to two months. The fact that their production technique is compatible with the equipment that is already in use for plastic manufacturing makes the integration process completely simple for manufacturers. This new material not only promises to extend the shelf life of products like fruits and meats (due to its anti-microbial properties) but also reduce the environmental footprint of packaging materials.
