WhatsApp was the first digital platform in Luxembourg to be used for the distribution of pamphlets by supermarkets.
In the month of May 2023, Aldi Luxembourg launched a digital endeavor by disseminating its pamphlets through the messaging app WhatsApp. As a response to the waste rule in Luxembourg, which mandates that customers must expressly consent to receive physical door-to-door publications, Aldi has made measures to digitize its pamphlets and make them available through alternate means. Customers now have the ability to request the Aldi folder over WhatsApp, and on Mondays, they will receive a message that contains a link to the latest brochure. This move not only coincides with the ongoing digital leaflet campaigns that the shop is running, but it also marks a first for the Grand Duchy. In preparation for the waste rule, which will go into effect on January 1, 2024 and require stores to modify their leaflet distribution techniques, Aldi is taking preventative measures by distributing digital leaflets through the use of WhatsApp, its own website, and other mobile applications.
